Was very apprehensive on Tuesday when I had to go for another double dose of cortisone in the elbows but the pain had become such that I decided being a "brave soldier" was silly because I'm basically not a brave soldier...in fact I'm not a soldier at all, to be fair. In the general scheme of things one tends to feel like one is moaning about nothing and would do well to shut up....but....these niggling little injuries which drag on for months...18 months, in fact....drive you crazy. It also is good to share these things as there may be others out there struggling with the same symptoms. It turns out that this injury has a name....medial epicondylitis....apparently anything with the suffix "itis" means inflammation, so my medial epicondyles are inflamed....okay, okay the bony bit on the inside of your elbow where the tendons connect the muscles to the bone.
What has happened since? I'm sure you're all dying to know.....I was at the physio today and suggested to him that I thought the injury had started and been exacerbated by swimming.
How sad am I?
Standing in my bedroom this morning doing front crawl....anyway, as I did the front crawl stroke I could feel the pain just at the beginning of the catch phase.....ping! generating in the elbow and right along the forearm.
Sounds daft but it did highlight where the pain was. So I told the physio all of this and (much to his credit) he didn't laugh....instead it was friction massage, which is fairly intense until the body's own analgesic kicks in and then a bit of ultra sound.
I'll be at the physio for a wee while I reckon to see if this course of treatment does the trick....fingers crossed.

kicking for you it is then?? Or perhaps breast stroke?? or off swimming all together? sounds like its more hassle than worth it with your arm and nasal issues..... :-P
a "drop of lead" behind the ear has been suggested...I'm beginning to think that that may be the only alternative...
